| Accomplishments and Numbers |
December 2007 to December 2010:
- 1,500+ homes tested for lead hazards.
- 1,500+ home-education visits to families at risk oflead poisoning.
- 600+ additional families educated through group
presentations at health care clinics and through health promotion
programs.
- 300+ day care staff and outreach workers trained on
lead poisoning prevention and environmental health. Partner organizations:
Mary’s Center for Maternal and Child Health, Health Services for Children
with Special Needs,Center, Child and
Family Services Agency, Bright Beginnings, National Child and Family
Agency, and United Planning Organization.
- Policy advocacy through the DC Lead Elimination Taskforce,
which played a key role in the passing of the 2008 DC Lead Law and
additional protective amendments in December 2010.>
- Innovative outreach initiatives to raise awareness
about lead poisoning prevention like the 2008 Summer Initiative and the
poster competition with the students of Duke Ellington School of the Arts.
- Swift and efficient emergency response to all City
requests, from emergency home-visits to poisoned children with very high
levels of lead to community outreach vis-à-vis potential lead pollutants
in DC neighborhoods.
- Primary partner for Lead Poisoning Prevention Week.
